This week the most sweeping change to Social Security in three decades was signed into law by the President with the passage of the 2015 Budget bill, with no debate and hardly any mention in the press. Even AARP has been silent on this bill. Jim notes that these changes are likely to have a significant impact on many Boomer’s Social Security benefits, and it will ultimately impact women the most. Jim and John go over the changes, and how they will impact seniors in the years ahead. Because of the complexity of these changes to Social Security benefits, Jim uses a case study to illustrate how the file and suspend strategy used to work, and how it will work now. The official date that these changes take effect is April 30th, 2016.
