Biography
Bonnie Olsen, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist and Clinical Professor at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, Program in Geriatrics. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University and her Masters and Ph.D. in Psychology from California School of Professional Psychology in San Diego. One of her principal roles in her position at UCI is to serve as the medical psychologist for the UCI/Orange County Elder Abuse Forensic Center. Dr. Olsen evaluates referrals to the Forensic Center who are alleged victims of financial, sexual or physical abuse. She is the program director for an Administration on Aging grant to develop strategies for prevention of elder abuse in persons with dementia and works with the team of professionals at the National Center of Elder Abuse currently located at UCI. In addition, Dr. Olsen is a team member of UCI Program in Geriatrics Health Assessment Program for Seniors’ conducting cognitive and mental health assessments. Dr. Olsen maintained a private practice in neuropsychological assessment, forensic assessment, cognitive rehabilitation, and psychotherapy for more than 10 years before becoming a full-time faculty member. She has extensive experience in the evaluation of cognitive disorders and dementia and in assisting those who provide care for individuals with cognitive or emotional disability.
